2019 Stewards' Seminar Builds on 1459 Successes

Over 150 stewards, union leaders, guests, and staff gathered at Tekoa Country Club to reflect on the year's pass success with the victory in the Stop & Shop strike and how to continue to build the union stornger.  President Tyrone Housey and Secretary-Treasurer Dean Ethier began the day by addressing stewards as new leaders for UFCW Local 1459. The rest of the morning highlighted a panel of Stop & Shop workers who shared their experiences on the strike and what it took to win. The panel was follwed by Attorney David Rome who lent his legal expertise to stewards.  The afternoon was led by labor educator Ed Collins who talked about the grievance process. Mr. Collins was followed up by a talk from the Pioneer Valley Workers' Center who discussed their efforts to organize farmworkers in Western Massachusetts.  Matthew Szulborski wrapped up the day with a panel discussion about private sector bargaining. Thank you to everyone who made this fantastic event possible.
