Local 1459 Holds Press Conference to Fight Wal-Mart's Discrimination

Anti-Wal-Mart Press ConferenceAnti-Wal-Mart Press ConferenceIn an effort to raise awareness to Wal-Mart’s blatant gender and race discrimination practices, Local 1459 members and Springfield politicians spoke outside the Springfield City Hall.

Organizer Tyrone Housey and Vice President Rick Brown were joined with City Councilors Jose Tosado and Bud Williams to speak out about a class action suit alleging Wal-Mart discriminates against women, and a separate suit charging African-American truck drivers were denied jobs.

As Wal-Mart remains the nation's largest private employer of African Americans, Hispanics and women, we must continue to stand up and be heard about the company’s blatant abuses toward workers of any gender or race.
