   Retiree's Club

In the late 1970's, former Local President Dick Abdow established our Retiree's Club with a small group that has grown throughout the years.

Members have enjoyed the camaraderie of their coworkers and made a new group of friends with whom they have much in common. They enjoy monthly day trips, overnighters to such places as Newport, RI, Lake Champlain, New York City, Atlantic City, Pennsylvania Dutch country, a 2-week trip to Florida and even a cruise to the Carribean.

Our Club meets at the Local Union office on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 AM. The club coordinator is Peg Picard. Following refreshments, they begin the meeting with discussions of the affairs of the Club, perhaps listen to a guest speaker, plan upcoming trips, acknowledgment of birthdays etc. At noon, the retirees are off to lunch at a local restaurant provided by the Union.

Throughout one's tenure as an employee, good friendships and relations are developed and because you retire doesn't mean this should abruptly halt.

Accordingly, our Retiree's Club cordially invites you and your spouse to join us. For more information, please call Peg at Local 1459's office.

   UFCW Women's Network

Who We Are

The UFCW Women's Network, founded in 1988, works to motivate and encourage women to become active in their local unions so they can contribute toward building and strengthening the UFCW. More than half of the UFCW's 1.5 million members are women and we are a powerful resource for our union.

The active participation of women members in the UFCW enhances our strength at the bargaining table, in organizing campaigns, and in the political arena.

What We Do

Thousands of Women's Network activists across the U.S. and Canada donate their time and energy to ensure the success of a wide variety of local union organizing, voter registration, educational, political, and community activities.

The Network also is making a difference in communities throughout North America by conducting neighborhood food drives. UFCW members prepare, package, stock, and sell millions of tons of food each year. As such, we have a special interest in reaching out to combat hunger in the U.S. and Canada, two of the world's wealthiest nations.

The Women's Network also works to alert the UFCW members and the public about child labor, foreign - made products, policies and practices of anti-union companies that undercut our economy and our communities, the need for national health care reform, and workplace violence through our annual Mother's Day actions. Network members also participate in many community activities such as assisting women's shelters, teaching about labor in schools, raising money for breast cancer research, and offering child care scholarships for working families.

Join Us!

The Women's Network welcomes all UFCW sisters and brothers who want to help create a brighter, more secure future for working families. We invite you to join us!

Membership applications are available from Local 1459's office.
